I recently tried to fix a simple issue: a street near me was renamed and updated in OpenStreetMap… years ago. I used Wahoo Maps Creator (a great stab by a community member on an Open Source tool) and it works…kind of.

My ELEMNT ROAM v2? Still shows the old street name (both when scrolling the map and when using turn by turn directions).

After digging into it, here’s the reality:
- Wahoo maps can lag OSM by years, not months
- Even if you generate custom maps, you can’t fully update routing + street names
- There is no supported way to rebuild the complete map data Wahoo devices actually use

So we’re stuck waiting for Wahoo to eventually push an update… whenever that happens.

---

## The frustrating part

Wahoo already uses OpenStreetMap.

The data is there.
The updates are there.
We just can’t access the pipeline that turns it into usable maps on our devices.

---

\## What we should be asking for

An official Wahoo tool or workflow to:

- Generate complete, device-ready maps from OSM
- Include:
- map tiles
- routing data
- street names / indexing
- Allow updates on demand, not on Wahoo’s schedule

---

## Why this matters

- OSM updates happen daily
- Local changes (new roads, renamed streets, roundabouts) matter
- Waiting years for updates in 2026 is… kind of absurd

## Suggested message (copy/paste or tweak)

> I would like Wahoo to provide an official way to generate complete map updates from OpenStreetMap data on demand.

> Currently, map data on devices can lag OSM updates by years, and there is no supported way for users to regenerate routing and street name data themselves.

> Providing a map generation utility (including tiles, routing, and indexing) would significantly improve map accuracy and user experience.

---

## Bottom line

Right now:
- OSM = constantly improving
- Wahoo maps = sometimes years behind

We shouldn’t have to wait years for something that already exists upstream.

If enough of us ask, this becomes a product decision instead of a niche complaint.

If outdated maps have ever annoyed you, it’s worth sending.
