I'm a new homeowner here and have a modest lawn. I have a wooden privacy fence and a few trees in the yard that create a lot of shade. The lawn is in pretty rough shape, especially in some places along the privacy fence (corners, for example), a patch where they dug up the yard to anchor the foundation, and some other higher-traffic lower-light areas. There is also a small ~8x12ft area I call "the cove" between the house and detached garage that gets almost no sun and is nothing but dirt right now. I'm thinking of adding pavers or something there? Open to other ideas.

Anyway, here's my main question - what grass/seed do you recommend, and how do you best care for it? My yard specifically is relatively low on sunlight and low on wind thanks to the fence and trees. I would love to have a really soft grass that you can walk barefoot on, but I also would prefer not to have a super high-maintenance lawn, so if that type of grass is more work I may think twice.

I've never owned a home/yard before so this is new to me, so please treat me with kid gloves :) Thanks in advance!
