Due with a boy in about three weeks and we aren’t sharing our chosen name with family beforehand. We absolutely love the name Benjamin nn Ben, Benny, or Benji but are concerned it’s too close to my husband’s grandfather’s name Bernard, who went by Ben. We’d likely use Benny or Benji until our son is old enough to decide what he wants to go by.

Wondering what the general thoughts are if a possible nn overlap is too close for a non-honor name and we should rethink our chosen name.

Husband was never close with his grandfather before he passed when my husband was a teenager. He grew up across the country and met his grandfather only a couple of times.
