I’m torn between the Dreame L40s Pro and the Roborock Qrevo Edge S5A for my first robot vacuum. What’s the reason I should choose the Roborock? I’ve heard that the Roborock app is the best of the bunch. But in terms of device specs, it’s often inferior to the Dreame, which makes a difference, for example, with its extendable arm for corners.

  • By the way, how well can I connect a Roborock vacuum cleaner to Apple HomeKit?
  • Also, I was wondering—since this wasn’t clear to me—whether it has a replaceable dust bag or a dust bin that can be washed out?
  • Or do you recommend a different Roborock model in a similar price range of 400–700?

I’ve heard that the Dreame app can be a bit buggy at times. But on paper, it often outperforms the Roborock, especially with features like the extendable arm for corners.

We are looking for a robot vacuum that further automates household chores and integrates seamlessly into our existing smart home system, which we can use on our ground floor.

In our home, we already use various home automation solutions that connect to Apple HomeKit. For this reason, it is important to us that the robot vacuum integrates with this system as seamlessly as possible, preferably via a direct connection or, if not, via Matter.

- Apple HomeKit / Matter integration

The robot must be able to connect to Apple HomeKit so that it becomes part of our automations. Directly or via Matter

- Ability to create commands/automations using Apple Shortcuts (for additional tasks or precize tasks you normally would do on the official robot app)

- Mopping function (must-have) (one of the main reasons we want one)

The robot must be able to mop, preferably with:

automatic water dispensing

a system that lifts the mop head when it encounters carpet

and ideally an automatic cleaning dock

- Effective edge and baseboard cleaning

We find it important that the robot cleans as close as possible to baseboards and edges, rather than maintaining a standard 1–2 cm distance. (so we don’t have to go after it every week)

- Suitable for carpet (short-pile, 1–1.5 cm)

Our living room has a short-pile rug measuring approximately 1 to 1.5 cm.

The robot must:

Be able to drive over this without any issues

Automatically detect when it’s on carpet

And prevent a wet mop from running over the carpet (e.g., via mop lift or zone settings) (if this is a possible feature, of course)

If I’m asking for the impossible, please let me know. Then I can always see where we might need to adjust our expectations. I’m not necessarily looking for the most expensive option, but definitely not the cheapest either. The price range we had in mind is 400–600. I’ve read that Roborock and Dreame are pretty good, is that true?
