Coming from a Mossberg Maverick 88, the 590 felt a bit heavier but just as reliable. Ran every tested shell type, including 1oz minishell slugs, without issue. The action was wobbly but very smooth. Magpul parts added a good deal of modularity. Fun setup!
Installed and tried the Vantage Point Armory light-mounted PX4 compensator. The Beretta PX4 is already a soft-shooting pistol, so I was surprised to find some unexpectedly good results: there were noticeable decreases to recoil with 115gr, and better with 124gr, which made staying on target very easy and expedited follow-up shots. Personally, it did make the shooting experience more enjoyable.
I'd read that this comp carried some caveats and issues. I didn't experience damage to the frame or slide, as some users have reported, but there was indeed major carbon buildup on the front of the slide and the comp itself. I did not find issues with accuracy. Install and lockup were both fine.
The form factor now changes quite a bit; it's much bulkier, and the larger footprint means less concealibility. Not an issue for the range, but something to consider for carry, especially factoring in holster compatibility considerations.
Overall I found this to be an effective solution for reducing the PX4's (already low) recoil. It works around the unique issue of the PX4's rotating barrel system, and I appreciate that the comp is non-threaded and thus accessible here in California. When paired with LTT's trigger and optic cut, the comp does turn the PX4 into quite a capable platform.
