Hi, I am very new to the bead scene and want to try incorporating some of my Salish and Cree heritage into my work. I am non status and have been struggling to get in contact with either side, in the mean time I wanted to find other ways to connect and understand my roots.

Is there any rules I should be aware of, like certain colours to avoid with certain patterns. On top of that any explanation on why certain patterns or colours are used would be greatly appreciated. From what I could find online they don't give much reason for the patterns or colours, just a big no no to dream catchers.

I'd appreciate any advice and guidance.

I am very new to the beading circle and want to make sure I follow the right procedures when it comes to first nation culture.

I just got a beading kit and looking over the instructions there doesn't seem to be any directions or even notes on the cultural side of this art. I know the art can be used however people want, I just want to use this as a way to connect and better understand my culture of Cree and Sailish.

Is there any specific patterns or colours used when beading? I couldn't find much information besides 'Indigenous people been doing this for a long time'. Any guidance or explanation would be greatly appreciated!!
