My family is sinking financially and about to lose our home
I'm (M21) and live with my mom, dad, and older brother. My mom and I have been the only ones working for the past 3 years. Two days ago, my mom pretty much dumped it all out on us . that she hasn't been able to cover the bills, and that we need to consider moving. Our household needs $4,000/month just to cover the mortgage and cars — not including food or anything else. My mom said she can contribute $1,700 of that, and I make $1,400/month as a server working 3 days a week. That leaves us about $900-1,100 short every single month, assuming I allocated all of my money towards the bills.
My mom sat us all down and said she'll cover the gap for 2 months, but after that, we have to move. I had no idea any of this was happening, and as soon as she told me, I agreed to commit most of my paycheck towards the bills. I also agreed to cancel all my subscriptions, unnecessary spending, and everything else that isn't gas or a basic necessity.
My dad says he's looking for a job, but he's been saying this for over 2 years, and I've been feeling for a while that he has either given up or is refusing to settle for a less significant job. I told him that any job at this point is going to be helpful, even minimum wage would help, but I don't know if he's going to listen, and he is getting old (60). My brother kind of implied that he'll get a job, but he hasn't worked in a long time, and honestly, I don't think he is actually going to get one since we've had a conversation about it before, and he did nothing about it because "it would compromise his lifestyle."
I'm seriously considering getting a warehouse job on my off days to bring in extra income because I feel like I can't rely on my dad or brother to come through in time, but I'm not really sure what to do about this. I don't want to lose the house. Any advice, whether its how i can encourage my family to pull their weight, budgeting, or getting through this helps.
