I have both MCAS and Asthma and this spring my symptoms are out of control. I'm already on H1+H2 double dose, montelukast, flonase, ketotifen, and I have just been put on Breyna for asthma maintenance. Even with all this and staying indoors basically nonstop, I'm still having breathing problems daily.

I suspect that the poorly maintained 1950's home my roommate and I rent is a factor in all of this. I asked my landlord about air sealing, but he is both balking at the price and suggesting that it will not actually help my allergies.

I'm thinking of paying a home inspector to come out and do an allergy screen in my house to see if the pollen levels are unusually high, or someone to come out to inspect the ductwork to see if there's leaks or if it's improperly sealed. (The ducts were cleaned recently, but I don't know if they were inspected to show whether or not they needed repair. I would assume not.)

Has anyone had this service done and gotten useful data from it?

Has anyone had air sealing done in their home, and how much of a difference did it make to your asthma? I'm in the worst flare of my life this allergy season and I'm trying to decide how hard push my landlord to get air sealing done. I'm having daily breathing issues even with every preventative step I can think of, and even with being on H1+H2 antihistmines, a nasal spray, a leukotrine inhibitor, mast cell stabilizers, and a new combination inhaler. Even when I stay indoors completely for days I still get symptoms, so I'm pretty sure significant pollen is getting in from the outside, especially because the house is older and not well maintained.

If anyone has had an air sealing service performed in their home and could share how it impacted their asthma symptoms, I would appreciate hearing about it.

In case anyone is wondering, I am already doing the following, which help but not enough from this still being a daily issue: Air cleaner with HEPA filter, highest level allergen filter in HVAC system, showering and shampooing as soon as I arrive home, keeping all clothing that has gone outdoors in the laundry room until washing, washing sheets on hot weekly.
